XP and Levels

What it is

Activate a companion and earn skill XP to train it. Its family skill feeds more pet XP than other skills.

The active pet also boosts skill XP for its matching family skill. That matching-skill bonus is applied before the XP event enters pet conversion. Keep these effects distinct: the family bonus changes skill XP gained, the feed percentage converts that XP into pet progression, and the rarity multiplier changes the amount needed to reach another pet level.

Quick facts

  • Highest pet level: 100.
  • Matching skill conversion: 100%.
  • Other skill conversion: 50%.
  • Activity window: 1 minute.
  • Repeated-action window: 5 minutes.
  • Pet XP rate: 1×.

How to start

Activate a pet, open Pet Details and read its family skill. Perform that skill while playing actively. Moving between blocks, interacting, breaking blocks and attacking are recognized activity. XP conversion stops if no recognized activity remains within the activity window. Opening an XP display alone is not a training action.

Use the XP calculator beside the formula reference to compare a pet's rarity and target level. Treat displayed XP as cumulative progression. Reaching the next level does not erase all prior XP. The next threshold adds another advancement cost. A higher rarity's larger requirement is a cost multiplier, not an automatic multiplier on earned XP.

Steps

  1. Activate your intended pet and check its family skill in Pet Details.
  2. Earn skill XP through normal play and compare the pet XP display before and after.
  3. Use the matching family skill for the primary feed rate, or account for lower conversion from other skills.
  4. Check the pet's biome affinity and attached XP item when comparing recipients. These change the final amount.
  5. For sustained repetition, account for the separate skill counter and its diminishing multiplier.
  6. Select idle EXP Share recipients if your rank grants capacity, then verify each recipient rather than expecting every idle pet to train.

What can go wrong

Without an active pet there is no active-companion XP conversion. A missing species or XP event with no gain also stops conversion. AFK eligibility is checked before repeated-action conversion. An idle pet receives no share unless it is selected within your available capacity.

Repeated XP events use a counter for your player and that skill. Counts through each threshold use that threshold's multiplier. Counts above the final threshold use the floor. The window restarts after its elapsed time limit is exceeded. Changing to a different skill uses its separate counter, but also changes whether the family-skill feed applies.

Worked example

Use your Pebble Whelp for this example.

The advancement cost from current level k is 100 × k raised to 1.6 × the rarity multiplier. At the starting level, the Common cost is the base multiplied by 1. Uncommon instead uses 2. The total target threshold sums every earlier advancement cost.

For conversion, take a positive Mining XP event after its family-skill bonus. With Terravore active, multiply it by 100%, the current diminishing multiplier and 1. A different skill uses 50%. Then multiply each recipient's affinity, passive pet-XP support, temporary XP boost and permanent XP attachment. The calculator gives the exact sum for later target levels.

More to know

The XP level ceiling is 100. Ordinary XP recalculation never lowers an already reached level. Rarity upgrades are a separate process with their own level and XP reset, so compare training progress before deciding to upgrade. Lifetime XP and current rarity progression are different records.

Ability chance, resource gain and pet XP are separate channels. A full meter does not award a level, and a failed ability chance does not cancel an eligible skill XP event. Region restrictions suppress ability use separately from skill XP conversion. Do not infer XP eligibility solely from whether an ability fired.

Your questions

Does rarity multiply earned XP?

Its curve multiplier raises advancement cost. Earned-XP bonuses are calculated separately.

Does another skill train my pet?

Yes. It uses the non-primary feed percentage when eligible.

Why did XP stop while I stood still?

The activity activity window expired. Resume recognized gameplay activity.

Why did equal XP events give different pet XP?

Diminishing returns, affinity, temporary bonuses, passive support or recipient equipment changed the final conversion.

Do all idle pets get EXP Share?

No. Only selected idle pets within your capacity receive it.

Does ability suppression stop the matching the skill boost?

The matching skill XP path is separate from ability suppression. It still applies its available family-skill calculation.

Family skill XP and Super Ability support

Your matching family skill receives the rarity base below, plus your pet level multiplied by 0.05 percentage points. Super Ability support grants Might for the listed duration. It does not lengthen the native ability timer or reduce its cooldown.

Rarity: Common. Family skill XP base (percent): 0. Might support (seconds): 0 seconds.

Rarity: Uncommon. Family skill XP base (percent): 1. Might support (seconds): 1 second.

Rarity: Rare. Family skill XP base (percent): 2. Might support (seconds): 2 seconds.

Rarity: Epic. Family skill XP base (percent): 3. Might support (seconds): 3 seconds.

Rarity: Legendary. Family skill XP base (percent): 4. Might support (seconds): 4 seconds.

Rarity: Mythic. Family skill XP base (percent): 5. Might support (seconds): 5 seconds.

Repeated action rates

Each skill has its own counter. A count at or below a listed threshold uses that row. Counts above the final row use the floor shown earlier.
